Going Mobile
I’ve recently upgraded my cellphone to a new 3G device, a Nokia 6680. My reason was mostly to do with that my existing phone was giving me sticky keys, and I figured that maybe I might think of something to build on the Symbian platform.
The thing that has most pleasantly surprised me is just how much mobile internet has improved. My previous experience was trying to get stock quotes and train times via WAP 1.0, something with limited use and a terrible user interface.
The best use I’ve found so far is Google Mobile - Local Search which is a good alternative to calling up for a directory enquiries search. Enter the search and the location and it finds it. It works well as a mobile service. It is very much helped by predictive text, which also speeds up the input (it saves 9 key inputs for “curry”).
