Microsoft Origami

Who is going to buy an Origami machine? OK, Robert Scoble aside, who is going to buy one?

From what I can see, it’s too big to be portable and yet won’t deliver the power of my laptop. If I consider my mobile computing uses they range from looking up the number of a local taxi company at an airport, through to browsing the web/collecting email, to coding and delivering compiled code via a hotspot.

If I want a telephone number that I’ve already stored, this won’t help. It’s not in my jacket pocket, because it’s too big, so that means taking it out of a bag to get it. The PDA has won by this point.

For surfing, I suppose it might be good, but then again, if it doesn’t fit in my pocket, it’s something to be carried in a bag, so I may as well be carrying my laptop. Also, my laptop has a keyboard, and unless someone can show me that the thumb-based keyboard will outperform that, I’ll stick with it.

For coding, I need a keyboard, large screen and a powerful processor.

I can’t see a place for this in my life, and I’m trying to project why many other people would see a place for one, unless they’ve got deep pockets with money burning in them.
