Using Google’s new Google Trends, I decided to do an analysis of the next generation consoles:-

• Sony Playstation 3
• Microsoft XBox 360
• Nintendo Wii

Thankfully, the console names keep it quite simple. I have however considered that some people might search for PS3 instead of Playstation 3, and that some people will have searched on "Nintendo Revolution".

So, the search terms were: ps3, playstation 3, xbox 360, wii, nintendo revolution.

Conclusions

The xbox 360 is the current leader, which is not surprising as it is the console that’s out, and for sale.

What is interesting is the Playstation 3 vs Wii situation. In a few weeks, Wii has gone from nothing to outstripping PS3 or "Playstation 3" in searches. It has not simply replaced the search term "nintendo revolution", but gone way beyond it.

The Wii growth line has also gone beyond the time of it being a much derided name. Meanwhile, Sony showing the PS3 seems to have had little impact.
