First Thoughts on the Apple MacBook
Looking for a replacement laptop, and the MacBook looks interesting as an alternative. I prefer Unix-based over Windows-based, but I’d rather get on with it than have to configure Linux (particularly for wireless).
Lots of plusses. The price is good (<£750), it’s a good design, dual-boots windows and can do all the Unix goodness fast enough. The lack of high speed graphics isn’t a big deal.
The downsides, there’s a few. Firstly, the shiny screen. I’d have to see this in action, because it doesn’t sound good. May be great for watching video, but for coding? Secondly, this heat/thermal paste problem. This sounds rather elementary to me. But I have high hopes that Apple will resolve it.
I’m sure that I’m supposed to be the target market for a MacBook Pro, but I can’t see enough there to justify the price difference.
