How to save money on the Railways

Here’s a money saving tip for travellers on the train. Next time, before you set out on a journey, there might be a cheaper way to do it.

By a strange twist of logic, it’s sometimes cheaper to buy multiple tickets for your route, than it is to buy 1 ticket.

For example, from Swindon to London, a saver return (which you’d use on a Saturday) is £37. But, if you break it up into two tickets, you can pay £6.90 for the cheap day return to Didcot Parkway, and then £16.60 from Didcot Parkway to London. Making a total of £23.50.

The only restriction is that you have to travel on a train from Swindon to London that stops at Didcot. You don’t have to get off the train, but some of the trains go straight from Swindon to London.
