Cheaper Computers
Apple
Retailers of Apple computers and iPods don’t discount. Or not by more than a few pennies. The best thing is to buy on service, or what gets thrown in. John Lewis meets both. They have an offer where you get a longer warranty and a wireless keyboard and mouse.
However, a friend of mine pointed me to a way to get a cheaper iPod or Mac: the Apple Refurbished store. I’ve been informed that things arrive as per new guaranteed etc. The offers look good with savings varying from 16-31% on iMacs and Macbooks.
There’s a link on the right hand side of: http://www.apple.com/uk/business/
Dell
Dell have an outlet for reconditioned machine at www.dell.co.uk/outlet where they sell refurbished/returned machines. Often good for picking up something that’s not current stock, which seem to give bigger discounts. But then, there’s plenty of people for whom a 1.6Ghz Pentium laptop will suffice. And when I checked the site, there was one for £258+VAT.
Hewlett-Packard
Hewlett-Packard have an ebay store for selling reconditioned machines at http://stores.ebay.co.uk/HP-Renew-Shop-UK
