eMusic
I recently tried a subscription to eMusic and I’m impressed.
The music selection isn’t huge, but there’s a whole lot of music that I want that’s on there, that I’ll be a subscriber for many months to come.
The choice is limited to independent music, which means that you won’t find any Radiohead or Beatles, but "independent" stretches far and wide, from The Pixies and The Fall to the synthpop of Propaganda. There’s also an excellent selection of classical music from labels like Naxos.
The cost is excellent. For $10/month I get 40 tracks, which works out at about 15p/track. So trying out Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas isn’t going to break the bank.
Also, the music is in simple, easy to manage MP3 format. No binding to a particular device or software. Stick it on your iPod/Creative/Cowon and off you go.
