Getting Online Video Wrong…
Posted on August 21st, 2006 by Tim Almond
Amazon are entering the world of online video, and this looks like another clunker.
$10 for a full length movie that I can watch on a PC screen or portable device? That’s going to sell. One of the titles shown is The Matrix. You can buy The Matrix on DVD from Amazon.com for $9.88.
So, for $0.11c more, you go without:-
-
Media
-
Playing them in your front room
-
Lending them to your friends
-
Being able to sell them on eBay later.
And I use up some of my bandwidth to pay for all these benefits?
Why do I think that someone out there doesn’t want these video services to succeed? If someone offers me something at a higher price than my current supplier, then why would I switch? Amazon, as much as anyone else should know this.
