Converting from Typepad to Wordpress

I’m currently rewriting a weblog for Robert Buckland, the Conservative PPC for South Swindon. I’m switching him from Typepad to Wordpress and hosting it myself. This is partly for cost reasons, but also for flexibility, that there are extensions that I can hand-roll.

Converting wasn’t too difficult. Typepad allows for export to a file (as a Moveable Type file) which Wordpress can then import. The only small problem was that there were some image links which referenced files on the original space, and so I had to do a quick search/replace in Gedit to reference the local space.

  1. As you know, I have just coverted from Blogger to WordPress and really enjoy the flexibility of my new site, being able to host extra pages. I highly recommend using Windows Live Writer for posting text and pics, it is pure simplicity.

  2. P.S. If you let me know Robert Buckland’s domain, I will add it to my blogroll and visit it too.

  3. Thanks Ellee,

I’m doing my Wordpress development under Ubuntu Linux now, which rules out using Windows Live Writer.

There’s a plugin for Firefox that I’m going to try out for blogging.

We’re got the domain for Robert, and I’ll let you know when it’s up and going.
