NHS Strikes

NHS Supply workers on 24-hour strike

"There will be two days where hospitals will not have been able to get their supplies in. This will cause a backlog," the union spokeswoman said. "We expect the effects of the strike to be felt next week."

I think the NHS and the unions have reached a point where, like Samuel Jackson in Pulp Fiction, I’m saying "go on strike again. I dare you. I double dare you. Go on strike one more time".

The unions striking will only create one "effect": most patients will be annoyed that they can’t get the service that they’ve paid for. Which means that hopefully they’ll join those of us who’d like to see a true health market where patients choose where to get their services.

Reading Jackie Danicki’s post on the NHS reminded me of my own experience. I have a good doctor, but I have on a number of occassions been treated by NHS staff with less customer care than I get when picking up a McFlurry. Staff who can barely raise a smile, who miss appointments without telling you. Of course, you can complain, but really, nothing gets done. Why should it? Where else are you going to go?
