Industry Lobbying at the BBC
George Monbiot in the Guardian suggests the following:-
In the past, it has often asked people to speak about contentious issues who - unknown to the BBC - had an undeclared financial interest. These are people working for "thinktanks" that take money from corporations, and advance arguments in the media that are in tune with theirs. This would be acceptable if either they or the BBC told us that they have a financial relationship with the industry in question.
It’s acceptable regardless of any financial relationship.
If someone appears from an industry-sponsored group with an argument that is just mumbo-jumbo, then let it be put forward. And let those who can demonstrate how poor the argument is come forward and tear it apart.
Really, the only people to fear industry-sponsored groups are those who have a problem that perhaps the argument they are putting forward may stand when put up to scrutiny.
