A whole heap of Free Music

There’s some free music on Wikipedia for download. Personally, I’m trying out some Schubert.

  1. That’s fantastic, are they easy to download, I’ve read some of the comments from the link and it comments on their size. Not sure I have the greatest speakers, but I would love to give it a try.

Incidentally, I was reading about DABs today and their poor reception. I head a BBC journalist last year say that they were not good quality, but that next year a new format of ditigal radio was coming out which would be much better. I shall probably make the switch then too. Do you know anything about it?

  2. The main thing is that the recordings are in a format called Ogg Vorbis. Which you may need to convert or get a plugin for your media player. The reason is to do with patents on the MP3 format, where Ogg Vorbis has no patents.

Regarding DAB, I’ve heard this - that at best, an FM transmission outclasses DAB. But DAB gives you a whole load of extra compression which allows for extra channels.
