Nokia N95: What doesn’t it do?
Posted on October 12th, 2006 by Tim Almond
I’ve read the specs for the new Nokia N95 (they call it a multimedia computer, not a phone). I don’t normally take much interest in phones, but there’s just so much in this new device.
- Phone.
- Camera. But with a 5MP lens which might mean you’ll be less tempted to also take a camera with you.
- GPS (Global Positioning System) accurate to 10m. Makes so much sense on a phone. So, you can use it for route planning or for getting maps or finding the nearest petrol station. There’s huge possibilities for 3rd party applications.
- HSPDA (or 3.5G). Download data at 3 times current 3G speeds.
- Wi-fi. Imagine the phone hooking up wi-fi points at some times to do Skype calling, and the phone network at other times.
- Stereo speakers and stereo bluetooth.
Nokia are also hooking into all the connected technologies out-of-the-box. Publish photos to flickr, read feeds, read an ebook. And it’s running Symbian S60 which means that it also runs Python and Java, so all that new technology can be easily hacked around with.
