Three Reasons for Going Firefox 2
I’ve been using Firefox 2 for a few hours now, and already found 3 features that I wouldn’t want to be without…
1) Spell checking. I’m not yet sure how this feature is implemented, but it sometimes doesn’t work, sometimes does (Is there maybe some CSS tag that checks things?). Nevertheless, it’s there and works like spell checking in other applications. If you put something in that it doesn’t recognise, then it underlines in red and you can right click to change/add to dictionary.
It also supports multiple dictionaries, so you can spell proper English.
2) Enhanced search. The search box now has features like Google Suggest. As you type, it changes a list showing the best search options that match what you’ve already entered. It works with Google, but I can think of some search engines that it won’t work with.
3) Microsummaries. These are quite a smart idea. They’re a way of showing the key information about a page in a single line, suitable for a bookmark. So, for instance, I’m bidding on a DVD of the Criterion Collection Edition of Brazil. I can put a bookmark in my bookmark bar showing the title, price and end date, as long as someone has built an appropriate microsummary filter (I expect a lot of these to appear soon). When I log in, it refreshes the bookmark, or I can click it to get the current state.
