Gmail App
Posted on November 16th, 2006 by Tim Almond
For some time now, I’ve been using my Nokia smartphone to read my Gmail. Google already made it easier, having a specially lightweight page for mobile browsers to keep it nice and quick.
They’ve now released a specific application called Gmail App which allows you to retrieve the mail on the phone, and because it’s a dedicated phone application, there’s less data to send down, and navigating around the mail is a local operation to the phone.
The download on the phone says US and Canada only, but it worked just fine here in blighty.
I tried this on a 6234 but it fails to connect to the network. Any ideas… Looks as if it is worth the effort!
Hi Adrian,
I only know how the 6680 works, where the connection/application are separated into 2 layers, and I’d expect the 6234 to do the same.
Do you have to go into some settings to allow non-firmware applications to connect to the internet, maybe?
I don’t know about others but I had a few problems on my phone (SonyEricsson V800) and I went through hell to make it work. I personally love Movamail http://movamail.com/ because it`s easy and supports POP, IMAP and Webmail and it works on any mail account I have (gmail, yahoo, hotmail, aol)
Thanks for the movamail tip tried it on my 810 works very well. I recommend it.

Hey HuLsH
Just curious. How did you make the Gmail Mobile app work on your w800? I don’t seem to be able to make it work on mine!
