Do MPs Deserve £100,000 a Year

If you want to attract the best people into politics you need to pay the going rate - whatever that is.

There’s a big problem with that. MPs are in the job for at least another 2.5 or so years. Barring byelections, raising the salary now won’t attract any new MPs in to the house until the election.

As for the 66% rise, inflation hasn’t risen 66% in the 18 months since they were elected. It’s more like 5%. So, what they’re saying is that 18 months ago, they were happy to take the job at 60% under what they believed was a competitive salary for being an MP. Pull the other one.
