Apple iPhone

I’ve been having a look at the presentation about the Apple iPhone. I can’t get to see Steve Jobs’ keynote because of the traffic levels.

It’s brilliantly designed, and will sell out very fast in the USA.

However, there’s quite a lot of talk about it blowing other smartphones out of the water. Which ignores the fact that there are different design approaches.

Take the Nokia N95. No iTunes. Not as much storage. So, if you want a serious phone/music player, it won’t be for you. On the other hand, the N95 has GPS and HSDPA which will allow for faster downloads. Combining the fast downloads with GPS means that there are real-time mapping services on the N95.

The market is more complex than the iPod market where the functional differentiation of the devices was small. For me, GPS and mapping matters more than music, so I’ll probably opt for the N95. For other people, they’ll want, and probably fight over getting an iPhone.

  1. Hey, I like your new look, it’s super. PragueTory has just changed his today and gone Art Deco. I’ve written about this phone today too, it looks so sleek and gorgeous, but I’m not sure it’s all it’s cracked up to be.
