Browser
I downloaded a beta of Apple’s Safari browser which has been newly released for Windows. I’ve heard quite a lot about Safari from Mac fans, so eager to try it.
My first observation is that it looks terrible. I don’t know if this is how it looks on a Mac, but the contrast of the menu/address area text and background seem wrong. The background is too dark. The text on the screen looks bad too. Considering that Apple are renowned for making things look beautiful, this isn’t a great advert. The text looks worse than viewing a page in any of the other 3 browsers.
In speed terms, it seems to be faster than Firefox, and a similar speed to Opera. Yet, it lacks all the extras that Firefox and Opera have in terms of customisation.
So, I’m not likely to make this my browser of choice. It doesn’t beat Opera in any single way that I can see.
The good news is that I can now test out how a site looks on Safari without getting a Mac or having to pester someone with one.
