Disappointing Tourist Spots

From The Telegraph:-

The Eiffel Tower is "frustratingly overcrowded and overpriced" while Stonehenge is "just a load of old rocks" according to a report which has named the top ten most disappointing tourist spots.

This is one of the things about famous (and often deservedly so) places. They are overcrowded. Lots of people want to see them. As for the Eiffel Tower, what were people expecting? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? It’s a 300m tower that looks just like what you saw in Superman II or A View To a Kill. It’s exactly what it says it it. It costs about £8 to go to the top - hardly a princely sum.

Even Egypt’s great pyramids, one of the seven wonders of the world, made the list of underwhelming and overrated attractions, because of the oppressive heat and the persistent hawkers.

Oppressive heat? You’re in Egypt, fool! Next time, have a look at the temperature chart in your brochure before you book.

  1. Thunderdragon had something to say here. I feel that if the hype can be discounted, then the original thing which caused the hype comes through and we can enjoy it.

  2. Absolutely.

I’d say that Stonehenge, The Eiffel Tower and the Temple of Karnak are all globally known, and to me, none of them are disappointing.
