Open Social Networking: Noserub

I’ve been having a few chinwags with Dirk Olbertz who runs the Noserub project, for which he seems to be working on something that what I’m thinking about. He’s starting in a good way - don’t try and produce conceptual diagrams - build something and get people thinking and talking about it.

The approach is not too dissimilar to the whole OpenID project. You can either join an existing server, or create your own and go talking to users on existing servers.

The project also seems to be exploiting some existing applications that have open interfaces, such as Flickr and del.icio.us to do a lot of the heavy lifting in their specific application areas. At least at this stage, this means that aggregation can be done, instead of having to build photo organising/item list at this stage.
