Steering Clear of PC World

It’s sad to see Ellee having so many problems with the Tech Guys, a part of PC World. I’m not going to tell you my stories from people, but let’s just say that I’m struggling to think of a single IT person I know that uses them except as the last available option.
Personally, I shop at:-
- John Lewis. Price competitive, knowledgeable and I believe they have a returns policy (14/28 days?). All my dealings with them (including a Palm issue) have been excellent.
- Novatech. Online retailer. Helpful staff and when I had problems with some blank DVDs, they just sent out another load. No problems.
- CCL Computers. Online retailer. Good service too.
- Camlab. Local computer store in Swindon. I don’t use them often, due in part to price, but sometimes it’s not much more than doing the mail order option due to shipping.
- Crucial. Only memory, but just brillant at that.
Thanks Tim, PC Advisor is following this up for me, I hope the matter will be resolved soon.
If you were buying a new home PC, where would you pick for the best combination of price and service?
Gimmie the recommendation in return for my free camera consultancy (i.e. buy a Nikon p5000).
Paulie,
Personally, an excellent local supplier (unless I wanted something that was more about looks). You’ll get a machine built with no software cruft, and good off-the-shelf hardware.
If you want a more glossy looking machine, or don’t know a good local supplier, John Lewis. When I was considering a Macbook, I would have got it from them.
