Alan Bennett on Private Schools

He said: “It was the first time I ever came across boys from public school. They were so confident. We were timid grammar school boys but they were very much at ease.”

“They were just louts, but I also realised that they had been better taught than I had. I thought that was unfair when I was 17, and that view has never changed.”

So, private schools work better than state schools, therefore it would be a good idea to get rid of them. That way, we’ll have even fewer well-educated and confident children.

Of course, the alternative might be to suggest that as it’s better, that maybe we should look at why it works better, and whether those things can also be extended to more children.
