St Pancras
I stumbled across an article about St Pancras station today, and I’m puzzled by something written in it:-
St Pancras was chosen as an international terminus in part because it is a few minutes’ walk from King’s Cross station which has connections to Edinburgh, Newcastle and the east coast as well as six London Underground lines.
Who is going to travel from Edinburgh, Newcastle or anywhere else north of Birmingham to go on the Eurostar, when you can fly from Edinburgh, Newcastle or Birmingham? I know there’s an argument that it’s good for those people in north london. But surely that’s a zero-sum gain? It might make it closer for someone from Watford, but it’s also going to make it further for someone from Guildford.
As for the “six London Underground” lines, Waterloo had 3 and to get an extra 3 adds a whopping 4 minutes to your journey time.
Well worth the £600 million.
