Microcredit

I love the idea of microcredit. The idea that you can lend money to a person, or a small group of people who can create or expand a business in certain parts of the world, giving them more stability and freedom, and also creating more economic activity in their country.
With kiva.org, you can do this yourself if you’ve got a Paypal account. You sign in, pick a project and lend the money. You don’t get any interest on the loan, but the idea is that you get back your money at the end of the term (which seems to be around 6-12 months). Of course, there’s a risk of defaulting, but there’s also a credit management company locally who seem to ensure that’s kept to a minimum.
