  1. Yes, well I’m in the North East of England but Yes all the same! I felt it, and thought I’d look on the net for any evidence of it being something else - but then i realised news sites wont report it for at least an hour.

So did a blog search and found this!

  2. lol good someone else felt something … I’m in York, seriously thought the house was about to collapse.

  7. Just had the fright of my life!
1am and I awoke to feel my bed shaking and things rattling.
I live in the top flat of a three storey Edwardian house in Crowthorne, Berkshire.
Got up to see if any other lights on but no-one else seems to have reacted.
Tried to call Emergency Services to see if they had flet/heard anything but there was no ringing tone on my landline and my mobile was constantly engaged.
Just spoken to someone and she confirmed they have had loads of calls from all over the place.
I was worried that it might have been an explosion but it now seems clear that it was an earth tremor.
Not keen to experience that again but at least I don’t feel quite so alone or think I imagined it.

  8. Yes I just felt it in wallasey!! The whole room shook!!!

  9. Thanks, y’all.

    The BBC also confirmed it.

  10. Yep i certainly felt it and it spooked my cat so much she sat for 5 minutes afterwards looking at the bedroom wall!

  11. Mate, never mind Swindon, i’m in Sheffield and my whole house rocked! Not to mention the “Dawn Of The Dead” style moaning that went with it! It’s the end of the world, on a wednesday, bloody marvelous.

  12. I felt it in Stalybridge…whole house shook and my tv/video shook aggressively in front of me. Also, my armchair was moving while i was sat in it - very very scary. I thought someone was trying to get in.

  13. I was having a bath at the time in Preston, Lancashire. The whole bath moved pretty scary. I had been drinking so was not sure!!!

    LOL Pat xx

  14. I’m in Smethwick five miles outside of Birmingham.
Just before 1am my house shook and I thought it was going to fall down, a most weird experience.

I emailed our local radio and now they’re getting reports from as far away as Yorkshire.

Is it just me or did the one that we had about six years ago in Dudley, hit us at 1am?

  15. Local radio are saying it originated in Notts and was 4,7 in the scale.

Well this is going to be the only time that I can say I was in bed and felt the earth move lol…. ;)

  16. Never felt anything like this before
I live in a small cottage and it shook violently with pots and pans banging in cupboards
I immediately thought it was an earth tremor and its been quite an experience - waiting for another one to follow !

  17. Forgot to say I live near Doncaster - so its pretty widespread

  18. I thought I was going crazy, until I’ve found these comments on the web. I’m in Norfolk and was woken by the strangest sensation. The whole house seemed to be moving. Very frightening experience. Hubby has just turned the TV on and it seems very widespread.

  19. According to the British Geological Survey Website the one in Dudley hit at 12:56 AM - This one at 12:55AM - Wierd huh?!? I thought that same thing myself

  21. Felt it in Middlesbrough. I was in bed, jumped straight up when i felt the first shivers. Then i nearly fell over when it got stronger. Eek!

  22. Well it woke me up….the bedroom shook and the blinds rattled I thought I was dreaming so I got up to check the web…..I do appear to be the only one awake here in North Buckinghamshire which is very sleepy at the best of times. Are these things one off or do you get aftershocks? Would like to go to sleep now………….

  23. I live in central Leeds on the 3rd floor and the tremor lasted about 4-5 seconds, my bed shook slightly, like a vibration, backwards and forward, but not side to side. I felt it go through my stomach, and I was sure the walls tremored from the force too. Very scary, i thought it was The Exorcist ghost, but what an experience!

  24. Hey peeps,
Don’t know if you realise but I’m in Berkshire.
You Midlanders seem to have had the worst of it so it must have been pretty scary if we got it down here!

  25. I’m in Sheffield too! It was unbelievable - literally shaken awake - everything was totally shaking. And the noise of the whole house shaking was incredible. I had no idea what on earth was going on - I really thought I was going mad!

  26. Felt it here in central Norwich too - where we have a major subsidence problem so I just assumed our house was collapsing - whereas all our neighbours rushed out into the street freaking out. Pretty significant shaking so God knows what it was like at the epicentre. I thought I felt something similar though less severe in the early hours of Monday at about 4.30am - did anyone else notice anything then?

  27. * I meant the early hours of Tuesday, sorry!

  28. Can’t find any news online, ran across this post whilst googling earth tremor! I definitely felt it here in Oxford!

  30. It woke me up at 12.55am - definitely felt it! all on the news of course this morning.
