Wild Boar

via The Times
The animals, however, are destined for the dinner plate, with butchers and restaurateurs reporting a growing demand for the wild game meat. They are breeding rapidly, particularly in Kent, East Sussex, West Dorset, the Forest of Dean, the fringes of Dartmoor and other parts of Devon.
There’s a few sightings of them in […]

Supermarket Wine

In a conversation about wine prices, I stumbled across an excellent site called Supermarket Wine. It collects up reviews from the press (which are normally positive as they only print the ones they suggest) by wine type price and so on.

Speeding Fine News

via The Telegraph
Motorists who undertake advanced driver training should earn “positive points” on their licence which could be used to offset points for speeding, a Thatcherite think tank has said.
Isn’t that like suggesting that someone who’s been on anger management course be allowed to beat a few people up?

Movie Bargain

Bought in Tesco the other day, the Luc Besson produced Taxi. Loads of laughs, car chases, french hip-hop and Marion Cotillard for the price of a couple of espressos (£3).
On the other hand, don’t waste your money buying the Observer just for the DVD of La Dolce Vita. It’s rubbish.

Choose and Book - a Professional Opinion

From The Register, a review of Choose and Book, the NHS internet booking system. Read it and weep…
Here’s a few of my own comments about what they’ve written:-

Giving people an option (like appointments […]

Timmy Goes to Brussels

(hopefully)

More on the 350d

A sunset tonight…

I never got results like this on the Powershot, and they’re as good, if not better than when I had a film EOS.

Assistance in Sports

What with all the talk about Duane Chambers, and drugs in sports, why is there no outrage over this:-
Three world records have fallen less than a week after the launch of the Speedo LZR Racer - the suit to be used by the Australian and US teams at this year’s Beijing Olympics.

Grant Hackett, who […]

New Camera

I bought myself a reconditioned Canon EOS 350. Not had much time to do much with it yet, but I’m impressed with the results so far…

(this is Thomas in his favourite spot, and massively scaled down from the camera’s maximum resolution).

Artificial Life by 2029?

Via the BBC
Machines will achieve human-level artificial intelligence by 2029, a leading US inventor has predicted.
I’ll make my own prediction here: in 20 years time, people will still be predicting that human-level AI is only 20 years away. 2001: A Space Odyssey was made in 1968, predicting that as well as colonisation of space and […]
