Getting to Grips with OSX

I remember when I first learnt object-orientated programming, a friend said that I’d probably have had harder job than many young programmers because I had, to quote Yoda “unlearn what I had learnt”. I had to try and get my head away from following the procedural route and embrace classes.

In some ways, I think that I’m maybe having more problems with a Mac than a total computer novice, or a lightweight Windows user. As a Windows developer, I’m so used to the environment that I do things on reflex. So, I do them on OSX and it just doesn’t happen. I then pause, slow down, and gradually adapt to the OSX way.

This morning I was feeling a bit down about it, but now, at the end of the day, having managed to install Django and getting an Apache/MySQL/PHP installed on it, I’m happier.

I owe a big shout out to Tom Dyson who has given me a load of great suggestions for software products. When I’ve got some time, I’ll write up some pieces on them.
