iPlayer Broken Again
Posted on March 14th, 2008 by admin
The BBC has issued a fix to stop people downloading programmes from the iPlayer website that were intended for streaming on an iPhone or iPod only.
I am happy to announce that I’ve defeated them once again!
Reading his comments, it sounds like the BBC got their web server to detect some quirks of the iPhone browser (Safari) that are outside of the user agent. So, Paul took his iPhone, ran it through a proxy, recorded exactly what got sent and then emulated it in some code.
I’m thinking about what the BBC’s next move is on this. Other than closing iPhone use completely, they don’t seem to have any other way to go.
