The BBC Micro

via The BBC:-
The creators of the BBC Micro are reuniting at the Science Museum in London to discuss the legacy of the computer known fondly as “the Beeb”.
Dr Tilly Blyth, who is writing a book about the machine said: “The Beeb helped shape today’s IT landscape.”

Swindon Panorama

I decided to try and use the Hugin software for image stitching, but I couldn’t get on with it. Then, today I was checking through the box for my Canon EOS looking for the strap when I decided to see what was on the CDs (I mostly avoid CDs of manufacturer software, preferring to use […]

Mary Ann Sieghart on F1

From The Times The money spent on it is equally grotesque: $2.9 billion by the 11 teams alone in 2006. And that does not include broadcasting rights or sponsorship or ticket revenues.
That’s fortunate. If sponsorship and ticket money were spent, rather than received, the teams would soon go out of business.

DK Demolishes Nadine Dorries

I’d rather that some people just used the “it’s against the will of God” argument over abortion than tried to distort scientific facts.
I’m not going to quote any bits of it. Just read the best fisking I’ve read in a while.

Microsoft Flips on Targetting on IE8

Some time ago, I wrote a post about version targetting in IE8, and how Microsoft were getting a beating from the standards people about the X-UA-Compatible tag, and how I personally thought they were wrong.
Well, turns out that Microsoft have listened to them and changed it so that it’s now “render this site in IE8″ […]

via the Telegraph:
Company bosses should have their bonuses cut if their firms do not act responsibly to help communities tackle teenage binge-drinking and recycling under Conservative plans to be announced today.
The Tories want to compel companies to link directors’ bonuses with their charity work rather than profits.
Directors bonuses linked to charity work? Is Face-Off a […]

Red Barrel

Paul Kingsnorth gets it wrong
Back in the Seventies, most pubs were tied to a brewery, and the brewers called the shots.
Turning their backs on cask ale, they promoted newly developed “nitro-keg” beers, which were cheaper to brew, travelled better and lasted longer. Watney’s Red Barrel was king.
Nitro-keg didn’t come along until […]

Lol Leopard

Nice to see it’s already installed.

Chicken Taste Test

I know that there’s individual opinions on these things, but there was a blind tasting test shown on BBC’s Countryfile this morning, comparing an organic chicken, a corn fed chicken, a free range chicken and an intensively produced chicken.
To some surprise of the people running and doing the tasting, the intensively produced chicken won.
