Free Virtual Machine Software (PC, Mac, Linux)
Sun have released a some free (yes FREE!), open-source virtual machine software called VirtualBox.
If you don’t know what a virtual machine is, the best way to put it is that it allows you to run a machine within a machine. You start your PC then run a piece of software and then tell it to use a “machine” within it.
One of the most common uses is for Mac users who want to also run XP. Which VirtualBox means you then get this:-
Prior to the release of VirtualBox, there were a number of other commercial products, and according to a Mac fiend I know, VMWare Fusion did a lot more than this. But VMWare Fusion cost money.
For Windows users, it means that you can run up Linux, Solaris, or maybe even another Windows environment.
Macworld have a video of it that seems to like it.
