Google Chrome

Just a quick note to say that I’ve been trying out Google Chrome, and so far it’s pretty impressive, especially from a web developer perspective, and particularly because as it’s webkit based, I can uninstall Safari.

It’s got a DOM inspector built in, a javascript debugger, and a “stats for nerds” feature about memory use by certain pages.

  1. Yeah — except that for some reason the Google developers have taken the most advanced CSS engine in the world — Webkit — and borked it, stripping out the text shadow properties and fucking up the rounded corner anti-aliasing.

    FAIL.

All of which Safari has too. You just need to switch on the Debugging menu.

  2. Funny you mention the CSS issues. I ran it against a site earlier today and found a few things that didn’t look right that are fine in IE6/7, FF & Safari.

I generally use FF and dom inspector/js debugger requires extensions. I’m not keen on how Apple’s update thing works, so if this works better, I’ll go for it (although based on what I discovered, I may have to hold on a little longer).
