Rebel Without a Crew

Robert Rodriguez is the director of hits such as Desperado, Once Upon a Time In Mexico, Sin City and Spy Kids. But he established himself with a $7,000 movie called El Mariachi which was released in the early 90s.

El Mariachi doesn’t have the highest production values, but it’s a fun film. And that’s all that matters.

With the film, Rodriguez produced a book called Rebel Without a Crew which documented his experiences of making, selling and showing the film. It’s more of a diary, and I think it could have done with some editing, but it’s also quite inspiring. Some of the things in there apply to building software as much as movies.
