Aren’t You Supposed to Be Conservatives?

I think this says all you need to know about the current state of the British Conservative Party.
Barack Obama is, by Democrat standards quite moderate. He’s not the dangerous candidate that some people have tried to paint him as, and I certainly don’t think that it is the end of the world if he gets elected. But he is going to be a higher taxing, more statist president than McCain would be, that much is not in doubt. So, why are Conservatives in the UK supporting him?

My own theory is that many people at the top Conservatives are now people who have always enjoyed the luxury of wealth. There is no Norman Tebbit or John Major amongst their number any more.
I think that many of them can’t imagine the effect of 1 or 2p on income tax to a poor person. I doubt that when Vaizey and Cameron support the TV Licence that they have any idea what it’s like for someone on low income to pay out £140 to the BBC.
They are loaded up with rich-kid wonks, most of whom are out of touch with the voters. My own opinion is that they’ll get 1 term at best before Labour get back into power.
