British Airways and airport operator BAA have been accused of “serious failings” over the chaotic opening of Heathrow’s Terminal 5, which was branded “a national embarrassment” by a committee of MPs.

OK, Terminal 5 was a bit of a testing cockup. BA and BAA have admitted as much. But, let’s put this into context. This was a problem for a whole 2 weeks, and going live with new software is rarely trouble-free, however much work you put in.

For politicians who are in charge of the NHS Supercomputer, Libra and The Olympics who couldn’t manage their way out of a paper bag to start talking about how badly Terminal 5 was run takes a lot of chutzpah.
