Scorsese Evening

I’m a bit of a fan of Scorsese, but I’ve still got a few to watch. Tonight I watched a couple from two different eras. I won’t say too much, because I don’t want to reveal any plot points.
First up was After Hours starring Griffin Dunne and Rosanna Arquette. It’s quite a surreal movie set […]

Hillary Rocky Clinton

From the BBC:-
Hillary Clinton has vowed to fight on in the contest to be the Democrats’ presidential candidate, comparing herself to the film character Rocky.
What, and get beaten in the end after a panel awards the contest to the black contender? Sounds about right.

Strange Connections

Reading this via Jackie Danicki’s post, I came across this snippet:-
“I don’t want to rain on the thing for her “
and now I can’t help thinking of her like this:-

Movie Bargain

Bought in Tesco the other day, the Luc Besson produced Taxi. Loads of laughs, car chases, french hip-hop and Marion Cotillard for the price of a couple of espressos (£3).
On the other hand, don’t waste your money buying the Observer just for the DVD of La Dolce Vita. It’s rubbish.

Hot Fuzz

I’m a huge fan of the TV series Spaced, and the movie Shaun of the Dead. I should have caught it earlier, but I watched Hot Fuzz at the weekend.
If you liked Shaun, you’re going to love Hot Fuzz. It feels slicker, but it’s still got the sense that those others had of crazy things […]

Video Piracy Warnings

I bought Hot Fuzz at the weekend, tore off the celophane, popped the DVD in and sat down to watch it. First thing, I get a techno-inspired warning about not pirating movies, with a computer with proprietary movie operating system using giant movie fonts (100px) and progress bars.Wel, thanks for the advice. Seeing how I’m […]

Casino Royale

I watched Casino Royale. I’d heard good things about Daniel Craig as Bond.
The main thing about Casino Royale is that this is Bond closest to the character I remember reading by Ian Fleming. He’s still a tough, resourceful and womanising secret agent, but he isn’t smooth like Roger Moore or Sean Connery. He isn’t loaded […]

Lucky Number Slevin

Having a sky+ box means I’m watching a lot more movies. The best of these is probably Lucky Number Slevin, starring Joss Hartnett, Ben Kingsley and Bruce Willis.
I don’t wish to spoil it, but if you’re a fan of thrillers and mysteries, I thoroughly recommend it.

Kinky Boots

I recently bought a Sky+ box, which is the greatest piece of technology I’ve owned since I got broadband. It’s just so easy to use. I’m recording anything and everything
I watched the movie Kinky Boots last night, a film inspired by the story of WJ Brooks Ltd, a shoemaker in Earls Barton, Northamptonshire. I wouldn’t […]

Star Wars Meets Boogie Nights

As a fan of both Star Wars and PT Anderson, this rates as genius.
