Supermarket Wine

In a conversation about wine prices, I stumbled across an excellent site called Supermarket Wine. It collects up reviews from the press (which are normally positive as they only print the ones they suggest) by wine type price and so on.

Chateau Labegorce 1998

Opened a bottle of this excellent Margaux last night. Lots of lovely creamy fruit and vanilla tones. Tannin levels good.
However, if you’ve got one, leave it for another year or two, when I think it will be at its best. I’ve still got one left!

Casillero del Diablo Casablanca Sauvingon Blanc

I like sauvignon blanc, but I’m quite particular about it. Too often, it’s too acidic for my liking. Even well-rated and high priced bottles have too much in them.
So, I was pleasantly surprised by this bottle from the Casablanca Valley in Chile that Tesco are selling. It’s got some acidity, but before that moment where […]

Cork’d

Sometimes, I have ideas for websites. Things for myself, and not for clients. Stuff where there might just be a limited market for them, but commitments and time just get the better of me. I don’t get worked up about it any more.
Anyhow, one of these ideas was to have a website for monitoring what’s […]

Some Christmas Wines

First off, Happy Christmas to anyone reading this.
I drank 2 wines over Christmas..

‘98 Labégorce Margaux. In my opinion, at about it’s peak, so I’ll be drinking the other bottle fairly soon.
2005 Cape Mentelle Sauvignon/Semillon. A really good sauvignon. It was started by the Cloudy Bay people, and whilst not as classy, was very enjoyable.

I left […]

Chateau Musar

I was in the Waitrose in Marlborough collecting a few things, when I decided to get a few bottles of wine, completely forgetting the Thresher’s 40% off.
Most notably, I picked up a bottle of Chateau Musar, which comes from Lebanon. In a way, because I’ve never had wine from Lebanon before, but I wouldn’t buy […]

Favourite Wines

These may or not be available at Threshers/Wine Rack, but with Christmas coming up, here’s some wine suggestions…
Red

Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz/Mouverdre. I’ve had a few other Penfolds, and they’ve all been good. Never found any rich enough friends to offer me a glass of Grange, though.
Chateau Labegorce. A real class red Cru Bourgeois. Difficult to […]

Thresher’s Wine Deal

Via Ellee…
No need for booze cruises, as Neville Hobson points out, because Threshers is giving bloggers a whopping 40% discounton all wine and champagne bought between 30 November - 10 December. This offer is particularly novel as it is not being advertised or promoted anywhere other than blogsphere, not even in their own stores.
I know a little […]
